ALONG THE LOIRE RIVER BY BIKE

Date: Sunday 1 jan 2017 - Monday 17 Dec 2018

This stay combines the discovery of the city of Tours and the relaxing countryside that surrounds it.

Take a ride along the route of the "Loire à Vélo," to the west, on a bucolic trail along a completely refurbished old tow-path towards the charming village of Savonnières on the Cher, where barges and traditional boats of the seventeenth century criss-cross the river throughout the year.
Then, the GARDENS OF VILLANDRY, one of the last great castles built on the banks of the Loire in the Renaissance (1536). Admire the most beautiful gardens in France, constructed on three levels:
- The water garden, with its cloister of lime trees;
- The decorative flower garden, made up of the "garden of love," the "garden of music" and the "jardin des simples."
- The kitchen garden, covering 12,500 m2, in an authentic multicoloured checkerboard, divided into nine squares where vegetables and fruit trees are planted symmetrically.

To the east, follow the Loire to ROCHECORBON, a small town at the foot of the cliffs, which are carved into a gallery of cave dwellings. The Vouvray vineyards have been famous for their white wine since the fourth century when St. Martin introduced the vine to these parts. Full of history, the Touraine country is also full of gourmet surprises.
For dinner on day 1, we propose a meal in a traditional restaurant in Tours or at the Guinguette de Rochecorbon.
End of our services in the late afternoon of Day 2.
